Review on Globe and Smart 3g Internet Connections
on Jul 17in Review Broadband tagged broadband review, globe broadband tattoo, smart bro prepaid by jamesThe other week our broadband internet suddenly slows down prompting me to find alternatives to our internet connection.
I was considering of buying a globe tattoo or smart prepaid to use it as an alternative for our internet connection. After googling for a review, I was able to find out that I can use my Nokia Cellphone to connect with a 3g network without buying their USB sticks. So here is the quick review for two 3g network.
Globe.

Connecting to a Globe 3g network is very hard and I am really disappointed with their services. I have called the customer service of globe more than five times and even went to one of their business office to have my connection fixed but unfortunately they were not able to do it.
Here’s a recap of what happen:
1. A CSR told me that they will activate my sim for the 3g network. They told me to wait within 24 hours.
2. After 24 hours, I told them I still cannot connect despite that I have already downloaded the latest Nokia suite. They told me to wait another 24 hours.
3. Couple of days later, I tried to establish a connection again but unfortunately I still wasn’t able to connect to the Internet. I called globe again and they told me that repairs are being done in the area, they told me call again before trying to connect so that prepaid load will not be deducted.
4. After 24 hours I called Globe again, they told me to change the access point from http.globe.com.ph to www.globe.com.ph. Alas! I was able to connect but cannot open any web page. By the way, once connected it is already eating up my balance. The csr told me to wait another 24 hours before trying to connect.
5. The next day, I still cannot browse any webpage but my balance is being eaten up. So I decided to went to a Globe business center hoping that there is a “technical” person that can help. But unfortunately, after tinkering with my laptop they were still not able to fixed it. They just told me to wait again for 24 hours and change the configuration back to http.globe.com.ph
6. Next day, I was able to connect to the 3g internet using my cellphone as modem but unluckily, the connection is not good enough to open a webpage or even login to YM.
Globe is turtle speed or you might say it… no speed at all.
Smart.

Smart Bro Prepaid in USB
Since I am a globe user, I bought a smart sim to connect to 3g network using my Nokia phone as modem. After setting it up in the Nokia suite, wallah I have a internet connection without making any additional configuration or calling the CSR of smart.
Here’s the speed test for smart although it is much slower than our internet connection it might be a good alternative just in case our internet bogged down again.

Speed Test of Smart broadband
By the way, I have tried the PLDT vibe prepaid dial-up it is much faster than connecting to 3g.
If you are using a smart or globe broadband internet please feel free to comment.

Sep 7th, 2009Actually all the new SMART BRO offerings both plug it and share it are offering 2 mbps speeds and sometimes deliver. Both share it has antenna connections and plug it if inserted in a globe or sun modem usb plug it opened line has a antenna connection to make better speeds even indoors.
With an outdoor antenna and not far from a cell tower you should get these speeds at times.
Check out the share it details/review at http://smartbroshareit.wordpress.com/
and plug it review/details here http://smartbroplugit.wordpress.com/

Dec 24th, 2009As a freelancer, I needed Internet connection, especially when I’m in Nueva Ecija (which I usually stay there for some days almost every month). And I purchased my Smartbro kit, my first mobile broadband plug-it, a few months ago and I haven’t been impressed with their network. When I’m in the province, it would usually take me a half hour to an hour to connect, sometimes to no avail. There are rare times, though, that I can connect, albeit at an unstable rate. When I’m in Alabang, the connection stabilizes, but it still is in need of improvement.
Then I decided to use Sun, and I’ve been on it for less than a month and I would say that I’m quite satisfied. The network is restricted to Metro Manila, though.
So I still need a dependable broadband connection when I’m visiting my home province. And, as of this writing, December 24, 2009, I have just purchased my Globe plug-it and am using it right now. And I must say that I’m relieved. I do not have to go to downtown and rent a PC. The connection is better than Smart’s. Way better. At least as of now…
I’ve experienced all three, and here is what I think:
Metro Manila:
Sun – Okay
Smart – Sometimes okay, sometimes so-so
Globe – I’ll try soon, but I bet the network is good (I sometimes connect via my mobile phone and the connection is better than when I’m using Smartbro on my laptop).
Nueva Ecija:
Sun – No network
Smart – Poor
Globe – Okay.
That’s it, folks.

Feb 26th, 2010Ok, so my experience in Globelines was so frustrating the connection speed is so slow and it suddenly disconnected when i am surfing i dont know what happened. Then in a minute i try to surf, again it is worst the connection is pretty slow like a turtle then boom.. Disconnect again. . Damn what is wrong with globelines? Before we switch to globe i am a smart bro user and their connection speed is stable and no problem at all. . Globelines has higher ping (500-800) in smart the ping was only (30-80) i am a gamer so i know their pings. . Sucks globe we want to cut it and switch back to smart but we have a contract of 1 year! 1 year of suffering. . I am from Antipolo City, Rizal
