Is it worth to Upgrade to Windows 7 from Windows XP?

on Oct 26in Reviews tagged by james

Microsoft has finally released Windows 7 to their newest operating system on the planet. So if you are one of those who didn’t upgraded to Vista (I too didn’t upgrade), the big question popping in your mind is Windows 7 upgrade worth. I have listed some reviews on why you should upgrade your Windows XP to Windows 7.

1. Most software programs that run on Windows XP will run smoothly on Windows 7. If after upgrading you find out your app will not run on Windows 7 then you can switch using Windows XP mode environment. What’s interesting about this mode is you won’t have to toggle between an XP emulator and Windows 7. The apps running in XP Mode appear like ordinary windows that are part of Windows 7.

2. Better driver support for your hardware. If XP is better in locating the proper driver for your hardware then Windows 7 is the best. Windows 7 comes with superior driver support. Look forward in not seeing those ‘yellow’ marks in the device manager.

3. Windows 7 Taskbar. The taskbar is somewhat similar to XP’s quick launch but it mixes the open and commonly used applications. Another thing that I like about the new taskbar is that once you hover your mouse into it will show a group preview of the windows that are open by that app. However if you are used to just single clicking the minimized app, it will annoy you at times.

4. Upgrades of the old apps. Microsoft has finally upgraded the minority apps that they usually ship with the OS. In Windows 7 the Calculator functions as a standard calculator, a scientific calculator, a programmer calculator, and a statistical calculator. Other apps that had the makeover are Windows Paint (with a new Ribbon interface), WordPad (also with a new Ribbon), and Windows Media Player.

5. Fancy User Interface. I like the way the overall interface of Windows 7, its sleek and artistic. You can choose to have your wallpaper changed at every given period. You can even include customized it whatever you like.

Here’s a review by Gizmodo on the fancy new interface.
“Its fancy new user interface—the heart of which is Aero Peek, making every open window transparent except the one you’re focusing on at the moment so you can find what you’re looking for—actually changes the way you use Windows. It breaks the instinct to maximize windows as you’re using them; instead, you simply let windows hang out, since it’s much easier to juggle them. In other words, it radically reorients the UI around multitasking. After six months of using Aero Peek.”

Here’s a video show casting Windows 7 features:

Windows 7 new features is more superior compared to Windows XP. However bugs and other annoyances is yet to be documented in this early stage. Will it worth to upgrade? Your comments is highly appreciated.
